"The P-03W sounds superb for the money but the OM-03E sounds truly world class - a superb all-rounder and one of the finest 12-fret finger-style guitars we've encountered".
The new issue of Guitarist features not one, but two Larrivée guitar reviews, plus a short interview with the man himself, Jean Larrivée. Guitarist 'Choice' awards are given to two new Larrivée models, the P-03 Walnut and the OM-03E Vintage.
"Larrivée's P-03W acoustic is a perfectly constructed USA-made instrument, and its cost of £949, including a proper hard case, seems something of a steal. The parlour's diminutive size makes it a great instrument for the travelling musician or the at-home noodler. But when it's as good as this it also makes a superb recording guitar".
"The OM-03E certainly has a family resemblance tonally, but with its enhanced size its acoustic voice is bigger in the deeper and fuller low end, a relaxation of the midrange and a beautifully clear, sweet high end. It seems to want to sustain for days".
"We can only guess how these guitars will age tonally but instruments this well made from solid woods can only get better - a pretty scary thought, as even in their 'infant' stages both are quite something".
"The P-03W sounds superb for the money but the OM-03E sounds truly world class - a superb all-rounder and one of the finest 12-fret finger-style guitars we've encountered".
"But then the P-03W is a stupidly good slice of old-school American charm. Not only is this a superbly built and evocative sounding guitar, its price suggests someone on Larrivée's accounting department dropped a big one...this might just be one of the few genuine bargains out there at the moment".
"We'll say it again: if Larrivée isnt on your radar, then you need a new radar".
The full reviews and interview can be found in the latest issue (September, Issue 372) of Guitarist magazine on sale now. The Larrivée P-03 Walnut and Larrivée OM-03E Vintage are also available now at £949 and £1899 RRP inc VAT respectively.
