The OD505 Dynamic and OC707 Condenser both feature Austrian Audio’s Open Acoustic Technology, a proprietary design that ensures the capsules are as free-standing as possible (and highlighted by the recognisable ‘gap’ below the capsule in the industrial design!)
The benefit? By reducing the contact points of the capsule and the mounting, as well as eliminating unwanted reflections that can be caused by the housing, the Open Acoustics design results in a pristine, natural and resonance-free sound without any colouring.
The supercardioid OD505 is perfect for live performance where the need to ‘filter out’ unwanted stage noise and just capture the vocal performance is essential. The new OD505 WL1 capsule retains all of the characteristics of the original microphone which ensure Austrian Audio’s Open Acoustic sound is perfectly preserved over the radio transmission. This now provides artists and engineers with the ideal solution if they require all the clarity and accuracy of the OD505 but in a wireless mobile microphone.
The new OD505WL1 has recently been used by Matt Bellamy of Muse on their ‘Will Of The People’ stadium tour. Monitor engineer Matt Napier, part of Carolan’s team confirmed this in a recent interview with FOH Magazine “When Matt performs in front of the P.A., he switches to an Austrian Audio OD505, which has great rejection and keeps the vocal sound as clean as possible.”
Another current use of the OD505WL1 is on the legendary Jeff Beck tour, supporting his new collaborative album ‘18’. FOH engineer Dave Natale says: “We use a different PA system everyday. The house installed systems or locally rented systems are hung in different proximities to the vocal microphone. The super cardioid Austrian Audio OD505WL1 has superior off-axis rejection characteristics without sacrificing any audio quality, whatsoever”.
And Sting’s FOH engineer, Howard Page, utilised the OD505 on last years ‘My Songs’ Tour. Howard has worked with the artist for decades and is intimately familiar with the requirements of Sting’s live performance. He chose the OD505 for the backing vocalists and feels they have made a real difference due to the increased sensitivity and rejection. He said: “Those new mics give me the definition and clarity that’s needed.”
The OC707 is another incredible vocal microphone for live or studio use. This time, it is a Cardioid condenser microphone offering an alternative ‘flavour’ to the OD505, where the delicate sound of a more sensitive capsule is required. Despite housing a condenser diaphragm, the OC707 is a rugged handheld Microphone with minimal handling noise, due to the many design features Austrian Audio have incorporated. Now, this too has a wireless option thanks to the release of the new OC707WL1, providing artists with studio quality sound in a live performance together with freedom of movement around the stage.
