Acclaimed British drummer and percussionist Gavin Harrison, best known for playing with the progressive rock band Porcupine Tree, has added a Nord Drum drum synthesizer to his set-up.
Gavin won the Modern Drummer magazine readers@apos; poll for "best progressive drummer of the year" for four consecutive years, and in 2011 voted best progressive drummer by the US DRUM! magazine. In 2008, he joined King Crimson as part of a dual-drummer lineup with Pat Mastelotto. Last year Gavin was a featured performer on 'The Late Show with David Letterman@apos; as part of their "Drum Solo Week", along with such players as Neil Peart, Stewart Copeland, and Sheila E.
Not a fan of sample-based electronic drums, Gavin has recently purchased a Nord Drum synthesizer.
- "Playing the Nord Drum is the most fun I've had from electronic drums," says Gavin. "Playing a percussion synthesiser is so much more expressive than playing samples."
The Nord Drum is a 4-channel virtual analogue drum synthesizer. Combining 100% synthesized sample-free sounds with state-of-the-art trigger response, the Nord Drum is a dynamic, expressive instrument designed to supplement any drum kit with a vast palette of brilliantly playable electronic percussion.
