Robert Wilson has been recognised by Her Majesty The Queen, for service to the Music Industry and Charity and appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the New Year Honours List 2016.
Robert is Chairman of Sound Technology Ltd, one of the largest and most successful independent musical instrument and professional audio distributors in the UK. Sound Technology supplies a wide range of instruments including guitars and keyboards through to enormous PA systems that are used in iconic venues such as London's O2 arena, Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, Old Trafford, KOKO and many more.
Robert has also worked on behalf of both the UK Music Industries Association for more than 35 years as well as having been the only UK director of NAMM, the USA musical instrument industry association.
Robert is director of Music for Youth - a charity with which has been involved in since the early '70s. Its ambition is to provide access to live music opportunities for those at the start of their musical journeys. So far the charity has had more than 2.4 million under 21 year olds participating at MFY events with more than 3,000 taking place at the Schools Proms each year at the Royal Albert Hall. Alumni include Nigel Kennedy, Evelyn Glennie, Gary Barlow and Laura Mvula.
Robert Wilson said, “To be awarded an MBE is a great honour and one which I am delighted to receive. As well as being an honour for me, I see this as recognition of all the hard work from the staff in the various organisations who are continuing to promote and encourage the playing and creating of music and music education”.
