Home of Newcastle United football club, St James’ Park is the oldest and largest football stadium in the North East of England and is the sixth largest stadium in the UK. it has been selected as an Olympic 2012 venue and will host a total of nine matches, including a quarter-final in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
Installed in 2003 the JBL PA/VA system is utilized for pre-game and half time entertainment as well as for public address announcements and integrated into the voice evacuation system. The installation itself actually led to the development and subsequent launch of a new production model in JBL’s Precision Directivity installation series – the PD5212/95 – now common in major stadia installation. At 55m from the ground, the throw distance at St James’ Park is almost double that of the average stadium. The PD 5212 offers specific pattern control and output to overcome the challenging acoustics of stadia.
24 JBL PD764P-WRC enclosures are also installed, passive versions of the PD764, with additional weatherproofing. The lower frequencies are dealt with via eleven JBL PD7145.
