"the performance of the unit as a DAC is comparable to desktop units costing twice as much or more."
The Apogee ONE is an all-in-one portable, USB audio interface that gives you everything you need to make professional recordings on the go. It receives a great review in the new issue of Resolution magazine.
"The main upgrade is support for 96kHz 24-bit, which gives a round-trip recording latency performance of around 4.4ms compared to 7ms at 44.lkHz (64 buffer). This transforms the ONE into something which can actually be used for proper overdub recording."
"The unit comes with a wide clip which can be positioned on a small table top stand or similar. It's all very tidy and easy to use. and it takes no time before you're up and recording."
“...the performance of the unit as a DAC is comparable to desktop units costing twice as much or more. To characterise the playback sound with a generalisation: the definition of upper bass frequencies (180Hz- 350Hz) is what sets it apart from comparably priced kit."
"I had some fairly hard-to-power headphones Sennheiser HD800 300-ohm, Beyer Amiron 250-ohm, and some 8-ohm Sony XBA-4 in-ear monitors. I like to listen at a nice level, and the Apogee proved capable of delivering: the XBAs were powered noise-free (which seems to be a problem with some amps) and the Amirons, in particular, sounded clear and powerful. Apple devices' digital processing power and touch screens are excellent: what lets them down for recording is the terrible A-D/D-A and headphone outputs. The Apogee ONE is an able battery operated performer with studio grade headphones, with the added bonus of mobile recording features."
The full review can be found in the September issue of Resolution magazine on sale now. The Apogee ONE is also available now priced at £269 RRP inc VAT.
