BOA Stage & Screen Academy in Birmingham has equipped its classrooms & workshop spaces with 30 Apogee BOOM interfaces – giving students a reliable and easy to use solution for audio recording and playback.
The college helps young students to develop technical expertise and teaches professional working practices to prepare them for further study or a career in theatre, TV and Film.
As part of the courses offered, BOA provides students with a range of facilities including iMac suites and production studios. The Apogee BOOM has been a perfect fit for this environment – providing a quick, simple and high-quality audio interface that can be moved between workspaces.
Outside of the iMac suites, BOOM is also being used in live theatre applications, including an immersive theatre performance run by the students for Halloween called ‘Behind the Curtain’. The public performance is being hosted at the Old Rep Theatre in central Birmingham.
Students had made full use of Apogee BOOM for recording audio for the show, using ECS Channel Strip DSP plugin to manipulate and saturate their recordings for more dramatic effect. They had also been using the BOOM as a portable playback system with a laptop. The loopback feature within Control 2 had been useful for recapturing performances through QLab.
BOOM has also played a part in the Broadcast modules, with students using it as an interface for streaming media and audio capture.
The performance of 'Behind the Curtain' is being held at the Old Rep Theatre in Birmingham on the 30th & 31st October 2023.
