Demonstrating the versatility and exceptional pattern control of JBL Professional’s VERTEC line array loudspeakers, ATK Audiotek of Burbank, CA deployed its custom designed cart system with VERTEC for the Pregame Show, National Anthem and Halftime Show at Super Bowl XLIII, held in Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL on February 1, 2009.

The Super Bowl XLIII Pregame Show featured a performance by Faith Hill, while Jennifer Hudson sang the National Anthem prior to kickoff. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed live at the Halftime Show, performing some of Springsteen’s greatest hits including “Born To Run,” “Glory Days” and “10th Avenue Freeze-Out.” This year’s Super Bowl was broadcast to 230 countries worldwide and was viewed by a total of 94.5 million people in the United States alone.

Super Bowl XLIII marked the 12th year in which ATK Audiotek has provided audio services for the Super Bowl, and as in years past, the company deployed its custom-designed cart system, which enabled easy setup and transport off the field between events. The carts each included five JBL VERTEC VT4889 full-size line array elements, providing high output in a lightweight package.

“The Super Bowl not only requires the best in audio quality, but also challenges us to set up and break down the system very quickly to keep the broadcast on schedule,” said Mike Stahl, President of ATK Audiotek. “The VERTEC line arrays have always provided us with the optimal combination of unmatched performance and easy configuration, enabling us to meet the rigorous demands of this highprofile application.”

For the Halftime Show, Bruce Springsteen’s longtime sound company, Audio Analysts of Colorado Springs, CO, provided assistance by deploying their proprietary JBL-loaded stage monitor system, which was powered by 32 Crown I-Tech amplifiers. “We used the Crown ITech amps for various stage monitor mixes and they performed exceptionally,” said Albert Leccese, Vice President of Engineering and co-owner of Audio Analysts. “The collaboration with ATK Audiotek was well coordinated and the entire event was a tremendous success.”
