SSE Sales has recently supplied a Soundcraft Vi1 to The Thekla, a floating club in Bristol operated by Daybrook House Promotions (DHP).

The new digital mixing console heralds the first step of a major upgrade planned for the clubs’s audio system.
The Thekla is a venue and bar based on board a ship moored in Bristol's Mud Dock. Already holding an enviable reputation for innovative club nights, the venue's layout offers customers a unique experience for both gigs and club nights. Acquired by DHP Group in 2006, the Thekla is one of the city's best loved clubs and acts including James Blunt, Franz Ferdinand, Joss Stone, Duffy, Crowded House and Babyshambles have graced the Thekla stage.
The music venue has a capacity of 400 and hosts live bands and club nights. It is open seven days a week and also runs as a cafe bar throughout the day and into the evening.
DHP owns and operates a total of six venues in Nottingham and Bristol, with a total nightly capacity of more than 4,500. SSE Audio Group has a long-standing relationship with DHP’s Rock City venue, completing a major audio installation in 2009.
The Vi1 was chosen for the Thekla in part because the success of the Vi series consoles installed at Rock City (vi4 and Vi6).
'All Rock City technical staff and visiting engineers have found the Vi consoles to be very intuitive and the've proved themselves as valuable assets to Rock City and the Group' said Dave McVea, technical manager of DHP venues.
'The Vi1, with its small footprint and pricetag, was an obvious choice for The Thekla; it means we can use a familiar desk and keep a consistency in the systems used in all DHP venues. Also the fact that SSE hold Vi1's in their hire stock and are onlly 90 minutes up the road is great for peace of mind. Another advantage to using the Vi1 is the fact that it is expandable, so in the future should we require it, we could add a Vi stagerack and have access of up to 64 inputs. It just makes sense.'
Dave's thoughts were echoed by The Thekla's technical manager Lloyd Austin: 'We're really proud to accept delivery of the new Soundcraft Vi1 and we are excited with the new technical abilities that it will bring to the venue. It will not only improve our current facilities that we can offer to visiting artistes, but it also paves the way for any future upgrades.'
