When MAC Sound MD, Clement Rawling was assessing options for upgrading from analogue to a new digital mixing console, he was keen to look at a Soundcraft Vi6 following a training session at SSE Audio some time prior.
Clement had a project coming up, which warranted a large channel count and potentially a new desk to do this, and so opted to trial a Vi6 from SSE's hire stock for a two week stage production of West Side Story in February of this year.
As well as the sound quality of the Vi6, Clement was particularly impressed by the useability of the desk, where more than one operator can use the control surface simultaneously, as was often practiced on analogue consoles. He was also very keen on the fact that the Vi6 platform puts users at ease very quickly with its intuitive and logical operation.
The new Soundcraft Vi6 control surface has been supplied with a 64/32 stagebox, plus Soundcraft's compact 32/8 stagebox, giving a total of 96 input channels. The system was sold as a full Optical package, including 150m Fibre reels for durability and the extra distance this allows audio to be transmitted over.
MAC Sound hire systems for a wide range of events including theatre shows, where a high channel count is often essential and the company are keen to standardise on the Vi platform, and hope to extend their inventory further in the future.
After delivery on Monday, the console is being prep'd for load out on Friday to Manchester's Lowry Theatre for the production of Leonard Bernstein‘s musical comedy, Wonderful Town with Connie Fisher and directed by Braham Murray.
Clement Rawling is the Sound Designer for the production, featuring the 50 piece Hallé Orchestra at the Lowry until 21 April, when the show goes on tour until July.
